Ridgeview Medical Center
Ridgeview Medical Center holds a spot in my heart. I have had a relationship with this independently-owned medical center since I was born, as my mom has worked there for over 25 years. Through various surgeries, emergency room visits, and volunteering for 8 years, I have formed my own relationships with numerous wonderful people within the organization and developed a love for the sense of community and inspiration this place holds. Ridgeview is a special place, leading me to create projects through my high school to aid Ridgeview's needs, and to work there as an intern in their Foundation the summer of 2011.
This sense of community started in 1954, when Waconia Community Hospital Association sought to expand the local hospital. In 1963 "Waconia Community Hospital" opened a 2-story, 45 bed center. The 1980s brought an even greater expansion that caused the hospital to grow to a regional medical center. In 1990, and 11$ million expansion occurred, adding not only more space and services, but a new name, Ridgeview Medical Center. The hospital remained a community-owned firm until the year 2000, when it became an independent nonprofit hospital, one of the few in that category.
Today, Ridgeview is a 109-bed hospital, but is much more than that. The Center has expanded to seven clinics and three off-site alliance buildings. Each year, Ridgeview serves about 300,000 people. The center is one of the largest employers in its county, with more than 1,400 employees. These employees are assisted by over 450 local volunteers. The staff are specialized in over 30 specialty areas.

The ideals that Ridgeview has incorporated in their mission-nurturing the whole person-includes serving not only their patients, but their employees as well. The effort to create a sense of belonging at Ridgeview is one of the many reasons Ridgeview is so respected in the community, enabling community relationships that make projects like the ones explored on the Ridgeview Experience page possible.
Ridgeview Foundation
In 1978 Ridgeview Foundation was incorporated. Ridgeview Foundation's mission is to create a community of giving to support the vision of Ridgeview Medical Center. Since its creation, Ridgeview Foundation has supported Ridgeview via more than 30 projects, including the Ridgeview Heart Center, Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice Home, Community Chapel, Birthday Center and Neonatal Care Unit, and daVinci surgical robot system. Not only does the Foundation financially benefit Ridgeview, they enable others to as well.
