Welcome!
Welcome to my site dedicated to the study of Milwaukee's own Harley Davidson and Ridgeview Medical Center, a non-profit located in Waconia, Minnesota. This site is a component of MANA 3001, Behavior and Organization at Marquette University. This class introduces the fundamental concepts and issues of organization behavior.
In addition to these fundamental concepts, MANA 3001 explores the difference between for and non-profit behavior. My goal for this website is to present information about Harley Davidson and Ridgeview, and to then compare and contrast the culture between these for and non-profit organizations.
The case study page will explore the corporate cultures of Harley-Davidson and Ridgeview Medical Center, comparatively. I chose this topic as my focus for many reasons. First, as we learned about the different elements of an organization throughout this course, I found that all of the different topics discussed had an effect on corporate culture. For example, when talking about conflict and communication, the way that conflicts are handled make up a part of the corporate culture. Additionally, through my personal experiences with Ridgeview Medical Center and their corporate culture, and then the topics of this course, I became fascinated with the idea of qualitatively identifying what a corporate culture exactly is. Finally, when hearing Angie Ziegler, Director of Leadership Development at Harley-Davidson, speak about their corporate culture and the challenges they have had in improving it, I thought this contrast to Ridgeview's culture would aid me in identifying what a successful corporate culture is.
The final aspect of this website will further explore general topics discussed in class via informal blog posts. These posts are simply documenting my process through learning about this subject, as well as raising questions about things I'd still like to learn. We have covered numerous interesting topics that I have taken one step further in my blogs, so be sure to check it out!
